Portland, Maine Wedding Vendors

We got very lucky with our wedding vendors, we really listened up when the universe was giving us a push in the right direction. For instance, I stumbled upon a tiny magazine ad for a church turned restaurant that would end up being my dream venue and my mom finding a business card in a copy shop for our DJ. Once again, I hope a Maine bride stumbles upon this blog post and it helps her choose some of her wedding vendors.

Venue
I cannot say enough wonderful things about my wedding venue. We knew it was IT the moment we walked in. It set the tone for the whole wedding. Megan, my event coordinator, was so easy to work with, the food was absolutely delicious, and the venue itself was so beautiful we didn’t need to decorate that much. I’m so glad that every time I visit my family in Maine I will be able to enjoy dinner and drinks at my wedding venue.

Officiant
Finding an officiant was a challenge, so when I came across Captain Ken I was so relieved. Captain Ken is a master mariner and it seemed fitting to have a maritime blessing at our wedding as we were right in downtown Portland by the water. We didn’t want a religious ceremony but Captain Ken added some spirituality, which made my Mom happy. And have I mentioned he plays the bagpipes!?!? After the ceremony he went upstairs and played them while the wedding guests came in for happy hour! He even played privately for the wedding party so we could enjoy it too! He was such a character and added some uniqueness to our ceremony.

DJ
It was very important to us to have a great DJ. We wanted the wedding to be a party, and it was. Three things contributed to the party atmosphere; 1. No assigned seating 2. Food stations, so you can eat when you want and 3. A great DJ. Mike was awesome. He was professional, easy to work with, and kept the party going all night. He was definitely on the higher end of DJ fees, but I can honestly say he was worth every penny.

Hair and Make-up
I do Spa is a traveling team of hair and make-up artists. They came out to my hotel room and did hair and make-up for me, three bridesmaids, and the two Moms. I am so glad we did this, I can’t imagine all going to a salon. It was so nice to all be together in my hotel suite sipping on champagne and relaxing before the wedding. The two ladies that came out for us were so nice and they did such a wonderful job!

Wedding Cake
We got the wedding cake from Two Fat Cats bakery and it was the best cake I’ve ever eaten! It’s so cliche but I did not get to eat much at the wedding, but I did eat some cake the day after and it was so delicious! Two small comments on Two Fat Cats, they lost our original cake tasting notes and the cake physically did not look like what I asked for. We discussed using mint green accents between the cake layers, but it wasn’t in the final contract I signed so the cake was very simple and only one color. It really didn’t bother me too much, I didn’t want to stress about small details on the day of the wedding and the cake was so delicious it was easy to forget. We also had the most adorable cake topper which gave the cake some personality!

Florist
Heather Caron was an amazing florist, she was recommended to us by a family friend. She was trying to cut back on weddings this summer, but I assured her our needs were small and I was very easy to work with. Thankfully she agreed. I showed her pictures of what I was looking for and she over delivered. My flowers were exactly what I pictured and she was very reasonably priced. I highly highly highly recommend her.

It was such a challenge finding vendors while I was in California, but we really lucked out and I’m so happy with how everything turned out.
