Within the past few years I’ve really stared to become more interested in cooking. I’m obsessed with the Food Network and looking for new recipes to try. Using tips from Mom and good old trial and error I’m becoming more comfortable in the kitchen. I’m really enjoying trying out new recipes, so I thought when I try one out and it’s a success, that I would share it with you. Here is my first attempt.
Are crock pots the best invention ever, or what? I like to prepare my crock pot meals at night so I can just turn them on in the morning before I leave for work. My dad emailed me this recipe, which is the exact recipe, or very close to the recipe that my Mom used when I was growing up:
Slow Cooker Pot Roast
Ingredients:
4 pounds chuck
Salt and pepper to taste
1 packet dry onion soup mix
1 cup water
3 carrots, chopped
1 onion, chopped
3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 stalk celery, chopped
Cooking Instructions:
Take the chuck roast and season with salt and pepper to taste. Brown on all sides in a large skillet over high heat.
Place in the slow cooker and add the soup mix, water, carrots, onion, potatoes and celery.
Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours.
I only did a few things different. I seared the meat with onions, and when I was done I deglazed the pan with red wine, to get all the delicious bits up. I also did half regular potatoes and half sweet potatoes. Here is what it looked like.
Okay, I know its lacking a little in presentation, but it tasted awesome, which is what really matters, right? Well now that I made it once, the next time I make it I can concentrate a little more on what it looks like.
