A Weekend Away!

Friday afternoon me and Josh made the drive up to the Buellton/Solvang area for the weekend festivities. It took us about 2 hours. We arrived at our hotel, which I didn't recognize at first, but it's in the movie "Sideways".

I guess I should have recognized it, its pretty distinct. The rooms were pretty nasty, but this hunk can make any hotel room feel like the Ritz.

That night we met up with some of Josh's co-workers and headed to Chumash Casino for some MMA cage fights. Josh tapped into his manly agression early on, as seen here:

There were 10 fights, the first couple amateur. They ranged from feather weight to heavy weight. The heavy weight ones were funny, two 300 lb. guys rolling around. We were in the 3rd row, pretty awesome seats.

The next day we started our day in Solvang, which is a small town with dutch heritage. We ate a dutch pancake house. So delicious.

We needed full energy for our visit to Ostrich Land.

It was 4 bucks each to get in and a dollar each for the feed, deal of the century. You get a big bowl of food that is bolted to a dust pan, which you are instructed to hold on to with both hands. Ostriches are STRONG and FIESTY! Josh was the brave soul to go first. I was a little nervous. I mean, look how hungry this guy looks!

Josh went first and put his bowl out. They went to town and cleaned it out within 15 seconds, and it was hilarious to watch!

Now you can't tell, because we are standing on a wooden deck, but these birds are between 9-10 feet tall! I tried to make my food last a little longer, I gave some to the ostriches and emus! The Emus were a tad gentler than the ostriches.

I think the emu was happy I didn't forget about him!

And so ended our trip to Ostrich land. So much fun!

We ended the trip with a wine tasting at Shoestring Vineyard and walked away with an 06' Merlot. Cheers to a great weekend!
