In 2010 on a work trip to Nashville I picked up a Hatch Show Print from the Country Music Hall of fame. The Hatch Show Print Shop is the oldest working letterpress print shop in America and its famous for printing promotional posters for country music artists and local shows. This particular print is one of a young and dapper looking Johnny Cash. I do have quite a weak spot for Johnny so when I saw this gem I had to scoop it up! This print has survived a trip on a shipping pallet from Nashville to Los Angeles and a move from Studio City to Encino!
Its just been sitting there for a couple of years because its such an odd size. It measures 22 1/4” high and 13 7/8” wide, say what?? I’ll cut them some slack since this has been their print size forever. Its been sitting there for long enough! I decided to tackle this project head on! I bought a frame I thought would work, but I would need to trim the print. Part of the charm is the print shop name and address listed across the bottom. So I returned that frame and went to the web for advice. I can't be the only one wondering what to do with such an odd sized print. I stumbled across a helpful blog post from Pardon Me Fancy and I love what they did with their prints!
They used an 18" x 24" frame and color paper to matte them. Feeling inspired I headed to Michael’s. I picked up a piece of poster board for $.99 and I got the frame for $17. (Thank you Michael's Coupon!) Below is the finished product and I'm really happy with the way it turned out!
The next project I'm tackling is the collage wall over the couch, which good ol' Johnny will be a part of.
