April 9th, 2011 was our two year anniversary. We decided to get out of LA for the weekend to celebrate so we revisited a small town named Solvang. (This is where we briefly stayed when we watched a MMA fight last year....remember the Ostriches??) Its only a few hours away, its surrounded by vineyards, and you can walk everywhere. Perfect little getaway.
"At the turn of the 20th century, three Danish-Americans had a vision—to find a place in California where land was fertile and their heritage could prosper under the year-round golden sun. In 1911, that vision became reality with the founding of Solvang (sunny field in Danish), a 9000+ acre enclave in the verdant Santa Ynez Valley just 125 miles north of Los Angeles. Throughout 2011, Solvang, known as the"Danish Capital of America" and recognized as a "Preserve America" city."
Its basically like traveling back in time and ending up in Denmark or Sweden. Its very quaint. We walked around the town all day Saturday, ate funny dutch foods, and did a bunch of wine tastings.
We had trouble picking a place to stay Saturday night, but I kept coming across the Meadowlark Inn during my search. So we gave it a try and we were really pleased. Again, it was quaint and the rooms looked like they were decorated by a sweet little old lady.
We had a really nice weekend. Happy 2 year anniversary boo.
